THIEFTAKER Blog Tour Installments Today

Today’s Summer 2012 THIEFTAKER Blog Tour installments include a post I’ve written for the blog of my good friend Lynn Flewelling, author of the Nightrunner books and the Tamir Trilogy.  The post is about how I chose 1760s Boston as the setting for the Thieftaker books and stories.  I also have an interview up at the Civilian Reader blog of Stefan Fergus, who asked some great questions.  I hope you’ll check out both sites.

Well, David, I just finished Thieftaker today. Two comments: First, bravo! This is one of those books that just kept me turning pages (well, clicking my Kindle actually, but it’s the same result), wanting to know what happens next. I love the way the action & especially the danger escalate as the story goes on. I didn’t guess who the bad guy was–you definitely surprised me there ;)

Second: You made me cry :( , and I bet you can guess where. But I forgive you because, well, it was necessary for the story, and because Ethan himself felt so bad about it. If he had just said, oh well, it’s not nice but it’s not that big a deal, I would have been very disappointed.

I like Ethan. He’s a down-to-earth good guy with some rough edges, not some perfect super-hero who never gets things wrong. One of my favorite parts of the book was when he threatened Sephira in her own home. I like to see the MC stand up for himself and tell the villain off once in a while. And I love the way he just doesn’t give up. You were pretty hard on him, and had me wincing and holding my breath near the end.

I look forward to the next book(s), especially as some pretty big historical events start to catch up with Ethan. Thanks for a great read!

Thanks so much, Razz. I can’t tell you how gratifying it is to get this kind of feedback on a book as dear to me as THIEFTAKER. I’m grateful to you. I’m really pleased to know that I made you cry — I cried when I wrote the scene. And I’m glad you liked Ethan. Again thank you. Now, if I may impose upon your kindness once more, would you be willing to review the book on Amazon? Thanks.
